Leempoels' tableaux of genrewerken waren te zien op alle belangrijke salons in Europa en bezorgden hem populariteit in brede kringen. Door de diversiteit van zijn onderwerpen catalogeert men hem afwisselend als academisch schilder, symbolist, (hyper)realist, ...
Leempoels noteerde en beschreef 185 tableaux in zijn memorandum. Van meer dan de helft is er een afbeelding.
